Air Conditioning for Listed Building – Spitafields, London

London certainly has its fair share of stunning, historic buildings that never fail to take our breath away. There’s an abundance of Grade II listed properties in and around the capital. A customer recently reached out to us, looking to install air conditioning in her listed building in Spitafields, London. Most of these require planning permission to undertake any external work. As a result, this can often mean that installing air conditioning in a listed property is something of a challenge. In addition, it being very hot in the summer can cause discomfort. We have a number of customers who contact us about air conditioning for these type of buildings.

Here’s what Juliet had to say about the water cooled air conditioning system we installed in her listed building in spitafields:

“I live in an early Georgian terrace in Spitalfields. During the heatwave of 2018 the top floor, where I work and sleep, was uninhabitable with temperatures regularly topping 35C. Things got so bad I had to set up a mattress in the basement! The house is Grade 2 listed and has very little outdoor space, so it was rapidly apparent that a conventional outdoor condenser just wasn’t an option.

I contacted several companies for advice about alternative ways of cooling the space and ACS were by far the most impressive. They offered a clear-sighted appraisal of the only solution to the problem, a water-cooled system, they showed flexibility with regard to problems of water pressure and electricity supply, and, on top of that, their quote was the most competitive. The installation was quick and tidy. It’s a very non-obtrusive system visually – ideal for a listed Georgian interior. The condenser is situated in the attic and cool air comes through slimline grilles in the ceiling. Back-up service is good as well. When the system closed down after a fall in water pressure, ACS sent out an engineer who showed me how to access the reset button.

To summarize, the system is fantastic. It easily cools very hot attics rooms down to a tolerable 20C. It really has revolutionised my life. I no longer dread the summer heat!

Completely recommended.
